Room Design

Well I had a few moments today to start taking down things on my walls.  I hate doing this before school is out. I want the students to be comfortable in their room
up until the very last minute.
Does it stay or does it go?
Specialists Day and Time Schedule
This will stay for next year. I had this posted right next to the door and it helped me so much at the beginning of the year. New school, new times, weird schedule!
My kids would have been at the wrong place at the wrong time without it.

Word Wall
The word wall will stay, some of the posters will go.
I want to add more writing posters to assist students in their daily writing activities.
The Writing Center is one of the most popular areas in the classroom.
 This picture is terrible.
We have this dark carpeted wall and it is horrible to get things to stay up on it.
The kids used this word wall often while at the writing center.
This word wall featured words from our reading series.
I also have a thematic word wall in this writing center area.
The student's pictures and names hang under our word wall
as a reference for others to use in their writing.
Summer Project- I want to come up with new interactive ways
to utilize the word wall more next year.

What posters to you have up in your writing center area?
What do think is most beneficial in your writing center area?

  1. I'm also thinking about some changes to my room decor for next year. I do love my writing area though. Besides my word walls (thematic & popcorn) I also leave up my "spaghetti & meatball" poster for spacing and an anchor chart for "What good writers do." My other charts tend to rotate depending on our needs. I love your word wall set up...it looks great!

  2. Hi Sandra,

I loved seeing pictures of your classroom! I just purchased Lori Rosenberg's word wall packet and love it. It is full of great activities that allow students to really interact with the word wall. Here is the link in case you are interested:

  3. Hey Sandra! I have several posters in my writing area. One of them is a "FANTASTICALLY FUN WORDS" poster that I made. It gives lots of words to use instead of old and over used words. The kids find it very helfpul.

I'm changing my room around a lot this summer too! I'm even COMPLETELY changing my theme! :) I'm going from stars to "THE WILD" :)

  6. I LOVE talking about writing! I have way too many writing posters hanging to list them all, but, the most used posters are definitely my writing topics cards, question words posters, types of leads, and transition words, to name a few. I can really go on and on. I think it's really important to have a print rich classroom and my students certainly appreciate it. For a week, I had to cover all my walls because of SAT testing and we REALLY missed all the displays. The children cheered when I tore off the wall coverings!

One more thing, thank you, Jennifer, for the sweet shout-out! :)

  7. Sandra, I think your room looks great! I know what you mean, I tend to take a few things down too before the end of the year (especially if I have to move classrooms!). I have a bunch of free writing centre posters on my blog that I made for my Writing Centre. I switch them up by theme (every 2 weeks or so). Happy (almost) end of year! :)

  11. I'm moving rooms this year and it seems like room design is the hardest part! I move things, then move them again! And I'm sure when my kinders come in August, I'll move things yet again.
