Kindergarten Petrologists Rock!
We just finished up our unit on rocks. Check out the cute rock collections that we made for free!Plain old egg cartons make a wonderful container for a rock collection. My friendly neighborhood landscaping store, donates rocks every year for the students. They have given me large rocks to use in the classroom for the students to examine with their magnifying glasses. They help get a variety of rough, smooth, shiny, dull, igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks for the kids to handle. Although we have a large classroom rock collection, each student wants one of their own, and they end up with an carton filled with 12 different kinds of rocks. Throughout our unit each student donned their petrologist visor while excavating and exploring. I simply wrote their name and "Rocks" and the students added some shiny gemstones to make them sparkle.
